Earlier in the summer, I took an in-person training with Millana Snow, a breathwork guide and energy healer and the founder of Wellness Official. One of my favorite parts about breathwork is that it's an inherently reciprocal practice. While I'm guiding you through your deep healing work, I am brought deep healing and groundedness. While I'm learning and training to better support and guide you through your process, I'm being guided and supported through my process. This training was no exception. I worked through a LOT and was humbled to learn that there is always deeper to go with breathwork, what a gift! We can always expand our hearts more, feel ourselves more deeply, realize and feel more that we are so clearly an integral thread in the fabric of the universe.

Millana taught a slow, feminine, intentional approach to the breath rather than the rhythmic, vigorous, masculine method I was used to and originally trained in with David Elliott. With this new breath I came to face my attachment to resistance — the ingrained belief I had that something needed to be hard for there to be a payoff, that I needed to fight and climb in order to get to the blissful peak of meditation that breathwork takes me to. I realized that resistance, both in breathwork and in life, was an experience I could choose, that I had control over, and if I wanted the entire experience to be easy and blissful, it could be.

It has been wonderful to start incorporating this new approach to the breath and more chakra based energy healing into the sessions. With such a wide toolkit, I've had fun playing around with different combinations of breath patterns and rhythms that I work with, tailoring each session to meet my client exactly where they are that day. For someone who loves pushing themselves but has difficulty with simply being, the more feminine breath is their perfect medicine. But for the skeptic, perfectionist, or anxious client who isn't convinced that they are capable of reaching a deep state of meditation, the yang/masculine technique gives them something concrete to hold on to as they conquer the fear of the unknown and its many personas.

Then, a few weeks later, I was attuned to Reiki Level 1 by a dear friend and healer Gloria Bess. Gloria is a Reiki Master who works in NYC and virtually, and if anyone is interested in experiencing her medicine, you can reach out to her at gloriabessk@gmail.com. This was a beautiful complement to the energy healing component of Millana's training. With Reiki, we work with the life force energy within us to clear and shift blocks in one's auric field. I am just starting to incorporate working with the chakras in my sessions, both in person and virtually, and it adds a deep and intense grounding aspect for me and a supportive flow of energy for the client.

Lastly, through working with you all and through all of the above study, I've expanded my confidence and capacity to do this work, and as a result have felt called to host more group breathwork practices. Group work has always been very important to me; many of my earliest and most profound experiences with breathwork were when I was practicing in a group. There is an emergent quality to the energetics of a group, somehow all of the exact right people find themselves together in group practice, each person bringing something that someone else desperately needs. Also, in our culture where healing is seen as such an individual and lonely journey — (therapy and doctor's visits all pride themselves on being one on one and confidential) — in breathwork groups we get the medicine of being vulnerable with others; our shame dissolves when we can share it.

So, I am hosting what I hope is the first of many breathwork groups. This will be a virtual group held on Sunday, August 8th at 5pm PT. Sunday is the Leo new moon and the Lion's gate portal, if you're into astrology, both of those mean a wonderful time for planting new seeds/a fresh start/a spiritual reset. But even if you aren't, the benefits of breathwork are profound, and I hope that you will consider joining, or sharing with your friends or family who might be interested. This is a great way for someone to dip their toe into the water of this work and see if there might be something in it for them. If this goes well, I hope to make it weekly, so let me know if you would be interested in that and what time works best for your schedule. Also, for those based in LA, I am going to begin with in person groups on the beach in late August or September so please let me know if you'd be interested in that and when you would prefer them to be. You can sign up for Sunday's group by clicking the button below, and please feel free to share widely.

As always, I'm available to work one on one or for private groups virtually and in person in LA. Book on my site or reach out to me to schedule. I'm also always here to answer any questions or just to chat about breathwork.
